The Cubo Reale introduces an air of aristocratic formality to the Studio collection. Building upon the strict, architectural linearity of the classic cube, this piece elevates the stark silhouette with a highly detailed display of classical ornamentation. It serves as a definitive architectural anchor, bringing a sense of grand, historical rhythm to its surroundings.
The focal point of the form is its deeply rendered relief, struck from historic moulds dating back to the nineteenth century. Framed within a precise raised border, a classical urn – detailed with traditional fluting and scrollwork – overflows with a rich harvest of fruit and foliage. This specific motif of abundance was a hallmark of nineteenth-century European estate gardens, explicitly designed to project prosperity and palatial elegance.
From a technical perspective, this is a highly demanding piece to craft. Flat clay walls inherently seek to curve and settle under their own weight in the kiln. Adding a dense, heavy relief to the centre of an expansive flat plane exponentially increases the internal stress and uneven shrinkage of the material. To painstakingly hand-mould this piece without the ornamentation cracking or the walls collapsing requires absolute mastery. Retaining the faintest, natural undulations along its faces, the Cubo Reale seamlessly balances historic opulence with the enduring, hand-worked character of pure Impruneta clay.
